My partner and I recently adopted Ophelia, a lop-mix of some kind, from our local Humane Society. We've been bunny parents to another rescue bunny, Wolfgang (a hoto-dutch cross) for about a year, and decided to adopt him a companion. Anyways, a few days ago we noticed that Ophelia had been quite lethargic, and that she was eating but had basically quit chewing. The four of us visited the vet yesterday, and it turns out Opehlia had an overgrown molar (likely already overgrown when she was taken to the humane society) that needed trimming and a cracked tooth (same story) that needed pulling. She's doing wonderfully, but we're having some trouble syringe feeding her (she isn't quite eating enough on her own yet, just nibbling at some food every once in a while). We've tried mushing up veggies and a few pellets, just her pellets and water, and a pellet/apple mix, and nothing seems to work. Has anyone else had to force-feed a picky eater? Any advice?
(there is a special powder that we can buy from the vet if we're unable to get her to eat, but after spending $350.00 on hery surgery and meds we're trying to avoid this as we're both students)
Thanks in advance!
