Our beloved bunny girl Talitha is getting her new housemate this afternoon. We have adopted a german shepard mix puppy who will come home from the vet (spay and shots) in a few hours.
We are going to see how they react and if it comes to it, Talitha refuses to come downstairs anyway and we will simply rig the bunny gate to keep Miss Puppy downstairs and away from the bun. They will NOT be left unsupervised together for at least several months, regardless. If they can play nicely someday, swell but we are not taking chances.
We chose a young female who has tested as interacting well with dogs, cats, kids and responded placidly to tail and ear pulls. She also shows no food aggression. That's all we really know so far except that she has wonderful eyes. We are hoping for a peaceful integration with Talitha, even if that just means they ignore each other. Playmates is good but peace is all we really require.
