Hi there! I'm new to the community. I work with a group of people who started up the website http://www.rollickguides.com  that lets users read and share tips about their favorite recreational activities, and one of our categories is Pets.

We currently have a shortage of tips about rabbits, so I'm looking for knowledgeable people to share your knowledge about your fuzzy friends!

Here is an example of a tip one of our users wrote about pets:

Pet Allergies

I think I'm slightly allergic to dogs - but I never really knew it until I encountered pets in a carpeted home.  With hardwood floors and leather furniture at my house there weren't a lot of places that my dogs' fur could get trapped.  However, in homes with carpeting and plush furniture my watery eyes, sneezing, and itchy throat are pretty intense.  I'm not suggesting you refloor your home and buy new furniture, but your allergies and a pet might be able to peacefully co-exist if your pet isn't that hairy and you can keep him in a contained mostly in a fabric-free area.

Basically, we're looking for tidbits of info that can be helpful for others. If you'r e interested in joining us and helping to expand our rabbit section, again, the site is http://www.rollickguides.com

We also pay for "featured articles", of 500-800 words, so if you are interested in writing an article about rabbits, please contact us!

Thanks and have a happy halloween!

You like her wings? They were the top of a wand, but I unraveled the ribbon that was wound around the straw handle, cut the straw off at the base of the wings, and then used the ribbon to wrap the wings around her.

I wanted to put her in a tutu, but we started our search too late. She also has a flower pony tail holder that when you put around her ears gives her a flower crown.

Yeah, she's pretty adorable. And we enjoy torturing our animals.

We were thinking of making Snoopy Snoopy for Halloween. Take some black construction paper and tape black spots over his black spots. But since we didn't start thinking about this until about 7 last night, and I still had two batches of cookies to make, we didn't have much time. But Cadbury got some wings!

This was taken soon after they met. They were almost the same size but Truffle already had ears like windsocks.

Those teeth have bitten me on the nose TWICE, and all because i asked for a kiss. How presumptuous of me!

FUCK!

I am disappointed with a lot of people today including myself.

I have spent most of this year buying my bunny overpriced medication. Numerous times I discussed with my vet regarding cutting cost. Yet it seems to go on death ears.

I asked if the medication could be mixed at Wal-Mart. A technician at the vet office said I could not go to the pharmacy at wal-mart due to flavoring. I did not think much about it and dropped the questions.

I was sent to diamondback pharmacy to pick up sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim for $70 (30 day supply) and enrofloxacin for $45 (15 day supply).

These past three months my vet kept prescribing the enroloxacin for 15 instead of 30 days. This time around I asked for a 30 day supply due to not wanting to make two trips a month. At the pharmacy they only charged me $30 for the enroloxacin for 30 days.

I paused confused why a 30 day supply was cheaper then a 15 day supply. They made me spend an extra $50 a month! I asked the pharmacist why the cost was different. I was given a bullshit excuse about the expense of the bottle. Yeah okay now!

I bought the meds because my bunny needs the medication. I then had to go to Wal-Mart for grocery shopping. I decided to stop by the pharmacy and show them the medication. Everyone in the pharmacy told me I was being royally fucked and that most people with pets are due to the lack of understanding that you can buy the same medication at a regular pharmacy. The only difference is there would be no flavoring. Which is fine, because no bunny likes medicine no matter how much chemical banana flavor you put in it!

I am so mad at myself for waiting so long. There were questions I should have asked. I am also mad at the vet and pharmacy because they make it you have to ask a question fifty different ways just to get the blunt answer we all want to know. YES YOU CAN BUY ANIMAL MEDICATION AT THE REGULAR PHARMACY FOR $7/ 30 DAY SUPPLY.

What should I say to my vet tomorrow? I am so upset. It is a struggle to buy his medication. I do it because I love my rabbit and when I bought him I was making a commitment to love and take care of him no matter what.

Bonding

Hi everybody!

I will be getting a new bunny on Monday, who will eventually, God willing, be a new friend for my two bunnies Tinsel and Choo Choo. I've read a lot on here about bonding on here, but I'm still frightened. I live in a large studio apartment and my buns have the run of the bedroom and living room. They don't go in the kitchen or the "office" area, so that's where I'll put new bunny. Then I'll build an NIC fence to separate them. Questions:

If buns can see and smell each other through a fence, will that cause problems during the bonding process?

My buns are eight and the new little guy is nine months. Do age differences matter?

Should I bond them one bunny and new bunny or altogether?

Is it safe for bunnies to be in an apartment building hallway (potential bonding venue) that people walk on with their outside shoes?

What else should I worry about?

Thanks,

Emily

And I will post pics.

Hello! I am looking for a bit of advice. My minilop Mac is terrified of being picked up. The woman I got him from said he had been socialized and was used to being picked up, but it doesn't really seem so. He will let us pet him in the cage, but when we pick him up he scrambles like mad. Even once we have him close to us and are holding him tight he still squirms a lot.

When we put him down on the floor, he only wants to get away from us. We don't want to let him get too far out of our sight because he pees and poops if we aren't looking.

Does anyone have any advice for calming him down when we pick him up? I want to be able to take him out of the cage so he can wander, but I do not want to stress the little guy out.

Thanks!

First, I made Smirnoff a Bunspace ages ago and I've been meaning to post the link here for ages, so you can all buddy her. Here she is:

http://www.bunspace.com/view_bunny?bunid=6960"><img

Secondly, she's entered the "Best Bunny Yawn" contest with this picture:

and I was hoping you could all vote for her! Please?

Thirdly, Smirnoff now has the nickname "The Destructa Bunny of Dooom". She has chewed through one of the straps on my bag, chewed a hole in my landlady's sheets, attacked my landlady's coffee table, attacked one of my pillowcases, destroyed two cardboard shelves in her cage, ripped apart the straw matting she had in there, halved the length of the cardboard tunnel that Bruiser had had for weeks, chewed a hole in the sleeve of my leather jacket(!)... You get the idea.

Strangely enough she hasn't touched the baseboards, even though they're right up next to her cage on three sides.

I've had my bunny for about 3.5 weeks now. She is doing well and had basically stopped marking everywhere except for the couch. I try to keep my eye on her but if I walk into the other room for a second she jumps up on the couch and leaves many little cocoa puffs. Why does she keep doing it on the couch and nowhere else? It's gross and I have a nice couch so I want her to stop. Any suggestions?

I would like her to be able to sit on the couch with us but I get nervous every time she is on there so I tell her to get down everytiem she jumps up.

New bunny!

Last night I picked up a little girl bunny who is to be Arthur's girlfriend.  She is a 10 week old lop mix, very friendly and keen on exploring.  She has flopped out a lot, and thrown some binkies and head-wobbles.

She and Arthur are fascinated with each other - looking at each other sniffing with a bit of nose-touching through the bars.

I have named her Lady Elizabeth the Longeared (I had to give her a name that would go with that of my other bun - Sir Arthur Fuzzbutt McFluffersons).

I finally bought a pack of those panels to build my bunny dream house but what do you guys use as a bottom? How many panels did you use and how did you make the door? Pix if you got them!

Moe Moe, who came to live with me at the end of August, is four years old, and a very mellow guy. Except at salad-time, he doesn't tend to rush about excitedly. He lollops.

So this morning at around 5 when I woke up and peeped over the foot of the bed, I was surprised and thrilled to witness CRAZY BUNNY TIME taking place in the dark and silent room. ZOOM! STAND UP ON TWO FEET! ZOOM BACK! BOING JUMP BACK INTO THE CAGE! OUT OF THE CAGE! STAND! WHAT? OH HAI! ZOOM! TURN! STAND! ZOOM! ZIGGITY ZAGGITY! DUCK AND HIDE! PEEP OUT! BOING! ZOOM! It was freakin' adorable. I wish I had video. I love the way loppy ears flap when lop-buns run and jump.

That's all, carry on. ;)

hey everyone,
i'm faced with a tricky situation here.
there's an abandoned rabbit at my local petshop. it was so sweet. it stuck its head through the bars for me to pet. so friendly and sweet.
it'll have to go to the SPCA if not adopted in 7 days.
i dont know what to do. i already have two rabbits and my mom has explictly forbidden me to bring it home (even temporarily), because 'this is life'.
i'm scared that no one will give it a home and it will have to go the the SPCA (and maybe get put to sleepor cause another rabbit to be put to sleep because of the lack of space.)
is it very hard to bond three females?
i'm messenging all my friends but no one seems to be able to take her.
she is just the sweetest little thing and i really dont know what to do.
i volunteered to pay for the extra food, hay and other stuff but i still got a no.
advice, anyone?
): ): ): ): ): ): ): ): ): ):

I'm curious as to your opinions.
I'm the happy owner of Hektor and Mimi. Hektor was my first bunny and I've had him for 4 years (I bought him from a local pet store when he was around 10 weeks old). Mimi was a foster bun that ended up staying with me. I've had her for 2.5 years but the vets think she's about the same age as Hektor.
I do foster work with bunnies through the local humane society and through the community (I've taken bunnies that people didn't want anymore and cared for them until I found them a new home). I find the foster work to be rewarding but demanding; I have to care for the foster bunny and try to socialize them while at the same time not neglect my buns. Sometimes the foster buns need medical care and, if they're not fosters I got through the humane society, I usually end up paying for vet visits and meds out of pocket. The problem I've come across recently is that no one wants bunnies. One of the pet stores in town hasn't sold a rabbit in over a month. There are currently 9 rabbits the local humane society which is a huge number, esp. considering that it's not Easter season (the society usually has 2-5). I'm currently fostering a rabbit who had a head tilt; I took him to the vet, got him meds, gave him injections for 2 weeks and, while he still has the head tilt, it's no longer progressing and he eats/plays/cleans/poops/etc. like a normal bunny. He's such a wonderful rabbit, but I don't have room or time for him to become a permanent part of my home (I tried introducing him to Hektor and Mimi but that didn't go so well). He will soon have to go to the humane society, but I'm worried that, with the large number of rabbits at the society and his history of medical problems, he might be put down when space becomes an issue.
My question is: is it responsible to foster bunnies when you know you can't keep them and you know you may not find a home for them? On one hand I saved his life; on the other, I can't provide for him and I may not be able to promise him a stable, loving home, ever.
I'm really upset by this situation (it's made worse by the fact that someone I know dropped a rabbit off at my work for me to take care of because their kids caught it; it's clearly a domestic bunny (sable-point lop) and she's really, really friendly. They advertised for the owners but it's been at least 2 months since the bunny showed up in their back yard so either the bunny got a long way from home or the owners don't want her anymore. Problem is, she's COVERED in ticks. All over. She's supposed to go to the humane society tomorrow but I want to make sure that they'll treat her and not just see another rabbit that needs massive medical care = euthanize the bunny. But if they say that they may not treat her ... then do I keep her and pay for her to go to the vet and try to find her a good home? What if I can't find her a good home?).

please help

Hey folks. I have a lovely lionhead boy. Unfortunately, we moved from my mother's to my fiance's family's house. We were told that in no uncertain terms was the rabbit allowed in the house. We temporarily kept his condo under a 3/4 covered carport, since the weather was nice. But it's moving into colder weather, and what we thought would be a temporary living situation, is now going to end up long-term. I will not leave the rabbit outside, and I cannot bring him in. I'm very unhappy with this situation, so I am looking into adopting him out.

I live in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. As far as I know, there is no small animal rescue in this town, nor close by. I have tried craigslist once before, and was told that I was asking too much as an adoption fee. I'm prepared to be picky about his new owner, but time is running out.

Any help and suggestions are most welcome.
