Hello! I recently bought some bunnies from a swap meet from a guy that had them in a wire cage and couldn't speak English.

Could anyone tell me what kind they are?
I don't know too much about bunnies. These are my first ones.

Thank you so much!

The new big thing for Chester? Sitting in the hay box (on the outside of the cage) eating all he wants. For a rabbit who I think is afraid of heights, that's a big step for him. I also don't know how that hay holder isn't broken yet.

Well I finally got back to my parent's house yesterday. Woo, bunny! This, of course, means I come bearing picures.

First, a few questions.

I'm moving Bruiser down to Uni with me in a week or so but for now I've moved him from his outside hutch inside, to try and start his litterbox training. But then  thought that maybe it would confuse him if he learnt here with one ltterbox and then got moved to a completely new place with a new cage and new box. What do you think? Is all practice good practice or should I wait till I get home? He'll have different stuff in hs litterbox in both places, paper here and Pets At Home small animal litter at uni if that'll make a difference.

My Mum also doesn't have any hay (I HATE the way she looks after my bun, hence the move to uni!). I could easily get a bit of farm standard stuff, but that's not sitable for buns. I can't get to a petshop. What can I feed him that will help boost his fibre? Will just grass do it? There's plenty of pesticide free fields around so finding suitable gras will be no problem.

Bruiser's now been inside since yesterday evening, so overnight, and Ican't find any poos anywhere. I've looked in corners of the room and things too, but can't see any. He seems perfectly happy otherwise, he's eating his mix fine and moving fine. He's even doing small binkies, which I haven't seen since he was young. He seems happy, Is it possible that it's just because he's i an unfamilier place? I think he's eating his cecals, he was licking down around his bum this morning so I think that's what he was doing.

Finally, and not s much of a serious question, has anyone heard of a rabbit that has a lionhead-type mane in summer but not in winter? Because Bruiser does. During the summer he has wonderful long hair around his face (he looks like he has mutton chops!) andbetween his ears but it's not there during the winter. I'll see if I can find comparison pictures for you...

You can see his pretty eyes in this one. They're dark on top and blue underneath.

From April. Notice the lack of fluff! What's with my bunny?

Took these two a few days ago--so far, they're the closest I've come to catching Mickey in one of his death flops:

He's gotten to the point where he doesn't always wake up when we step in the room, so I'm hoping to catch a really good flop someday soon.

Noob

Hi, new here. I got my netherland dwarf, Kat, about a month and a half ago. She has a cage, but I'm trying to train her to be able to roam about the apartment at will (also working on bunny-proofing the apartment because I just moved into it myself. At least she seems to be liking all the spare boxes I have laying around). The only problem is that she's not used to people at all. She's finally at the point where she seems to enjoy coming out of her cage and running around, and will even come close a bit to any of us around but will run away before we can come even close to her. I'd like to get her a bit more socialized and friendly because I am worried since she's a lone rabbit and doesn't have any other companionship. It will also be nice to be easier to catch her for whenever I need to take her to the vet sooner or later :P So yeah, any suggestions? I'm trying not to push her too hard or traumatize her, just a tad worried.

Ugh.   Where to start…

My darling bunny Kosh is 5 ½ years old.  He hasn’t been eating as much lately, but was still himself and excited for food.

Last Tuesday night he was fine and was hopping around the house.

Wednesday night I saw that he hadn’t drank any water (and he’s usually a water drinking fiend), hadn’t eaten, and was laying listless and hardly moving.  Needless to say, I was frantic.  Thursday morning he wasn’t any better and just lay there, breathing shallowly (still not eating or drinking).  I (between sobs) called the  vet and my husband and I took him in.

The vet said he didn’t seem to have any blockages and that his stomach and bladder were empty.  He said he had GI staisis which he said happened sometimes in rabbits.   He said he was dehydrated (obviously) so he gave Kosh a shot of fluids, Reglan to encourage eating, and a shot of the antibiotic Baytril.  He said we should feed him vegetable baby food with a syringe four times a day and gave us an antibiotic, Bactrim, to give him morning and night.

He gave him some of the baby food and we took Kosh home.  After a bit he seemed more alert (more than he had been anyway), which I imagine was caused by finally having a bit of food/liquid.  That was Thursday.

Friday he still hadn’t eaten (we are still continuing with the baby food) or drank (although I know there is fluid in the baby food).   He was pooping more (although it isn’t regular pellet poop but is soft, probably because he isn’t eating fiber/hay).  Once on Friday I saw that one if his poops had what seemed like a string of a clear jelly like substance.  On Saturday (still no eating/drinking) he started pooping with all this jelly like mucous.  I looked up his symptoms last night and found that they seemed to pretty much exactly match mucoid enteritis.  One of the things that was recommended on a post somewhere was Simethecone for gas (which I read could be a reason why he wouldn’t eat).  We got some and gave him two doses last night and one this morning.  He still hasn’t eaten/drank, and now this morning when I cleaned off the towel he was laying on had a bunch of soft poops in a bunch of clear mucous.

I’m really worried about him and wish it weren’t a freaking holiday weekend so I could take him back to the vet.  I’m about to give him another dose of baby food now.

Does anyone have any advice?  I’m really worried about Kosh.
