When I went to let my new bunny out of her cage this morning I noticed a ton of loose hair in her cage. I was floored by how much hair was in there. She doesn't have any bald spots but her bottom half does look a lot smoother. I didn't notice if her tummy is less hairy. I assume this is a normal shedding process or phantom pregnancy? I was just a bit alarmed when I saw all that hair on top of the folded up towel I have in her cage.

When I went to let my new bunny out of her cage this morning I noticed a ton of loose hair in her cage. I was floored by how much hair was in there. She doesn't have any bald spots but her bottom half does look a lot smoother. I assume this is a normal shedding process? I haven't tried brushing her yet (I've only had her a week) but I have been pulling out some of her loose bunches of hair when she's near me. I guess she got all of those out last night.

I have two bunnies in the process of being bonded who each got a bite in on each other during tonight's together time. Both bites are fairly small and clean, and don't seem to be bothering the buns (I know that rabbits will hide it if they aren't feeling well, so I'm keeping an extra close watch on their behavior and nothing is off), but are rabbit bites always a serious risk for infection and should I take them to the vet ASAP, or is it okay to just keep an eye on them for the next day and see how it goes?

While I'm on the subject, does anyone have any tips for bonding bunnies who bite like this? They are starting to get along with each other and will cuddle and nuzzle when we put them together, but if one startles the other they'll just bite (or try to, until tonight) without warning. I've tried squirting them when it starts but either I'm not doing it fast enough or they're just ignoring it. Their bonding just started almost a week ago so I might be trying to go too fast, but they really seem to be making good progress aside from the biting.

I recently decided I needed to get a new carrier for Mickey; getting him out of the one I have is often difficult because of the narrow side opening, and it's looking pretty worn after many years of rabbits gnawing and scratching on it. I do much of my pet supply shopping at the Drs. Foster & Smith website, so I went there and found the Large Travel Home shown here. It seemed to have everything I wanted: a large top opening, a cage-like style so Mickey could see what was going on and I could see what he was doing without much effort, and a reasonable price.

The carrier came on Friday--and I could tell already there were going to be problems. While the carrier itself was the perfect size for Mickey, the so-called "extra-large opening" was definitely not. The carrier walls fit together via hooks-into-openings, but the design of the hooks prevented them from latching into the openings properly. The plastic base that the metal walls were supposed to fit into didn't appear to have much there to keep the walls from popping out apart from some very tiny notches in the base. The carrier handle didn't have anything to keep it attached to the cage other than the two holes it was placed in, and it was barely fitting in those.

I was not happy, but at the same time, I did not want to deal with the cost and time involved with sending it back, so I decided to see it I could make it work. I pulled the hooks out a little with pliers so that they fit into their slots properly. I took a pair of wire cutters and widened the opening at the top enough so that the door still worked properly, but there was more space for Mickey to get in and out, then covered the cut areas with duct tape to prevent the possibility of him getting scratched. Once I'd fit the walls together, they popped into the base so tightly that it didn't seem possible that they could separate even if I wanted them to, but I tested it anyway just to be sure. Lastly, I used the pliers to squeeze the handle ends in at an angle so they fit properly and didn't pop out. I gave it a test run with Mickey yesterday when I took him out of the cage to groom him and everything worked just fine.

Today, I brought him to the vet's for a checkup and to be knocked out for a proper tooth filing. I put Mickey in the new carrier, drove to the vet's, took him out of the car, walked into the vet's office, began to lift the carrier to put it on the counter...

...and the bottom--and Mickey--fell right out of it onto the floor.

Thankfully, he wasn't hurt (and at least we were at the vet's if he had been), but I was simultaneously horrified and mortified. I scooped up Mickey and checked him for injury; he was understandably freaked, but not injured. The receptionist quickly brought us into an exam room and the vet was there within minutes. I explained what happened and she checked him over thoroughly before she took him in for his tooth filing. Once he was situated, I went out to the waiting room and put the carrier back together. When it was time to take him home, I made sure to carry the carrier by the base and not the handle.

Once we were home and Mickey was settled down in his cage, I went to the F&S website and not only emailed them telling them about my experience, but wrote a review of the carrier stating all the problems I had with the carrier. In both cases, I recommended that either a weight limitation be listed for the cage or it not be listed as being appropriate for rabbits. The Large Travel Home is listed as being for "rabbits, ferrets, chinchillas or transporting multiple small pets at once". In reality, it could hold a ferret or a very small rabbit, maybe, but nothing more than that. Mickey weighs 5 lbs.; if that carrier can't handle a rabbit his size, I'd shudder to think what would happen if you placed "multiple small pets" in there.

So now I have a new carrier coming; I went to the cat section and ordered a small Double Door Vari-Kennel; it's over twice the price of the Large Travel Home, but at least I know it's not going to fall apart on me. Since I can't return the LTH because of the modifications I made, I'm going to use it as a place for Mickey when I'm cleaning his cage, so it's not a total loss, but it still annoys the hell out of me that it wasn't the carrier it appeared to be.

aaai, does anyone know where you can buy those square...er, "walls" that can be used to make bunny combos?
In Australia?

I've been looking everywhere!

I want to use it to make a LARGE outdoor run so they can have good running time outdoors without fears of them escaping the backyard.
I'd get chicken wire, but I don't want a permanent one, I want one i can move around. give the grass a break.

Ms Hadley came back from her spay last night, (it only took a few hours), and aparently she was pregnant from when she got out at the farm the other day.

Now I know that I've been posting heaps, but she has touched her pellets since she got back, and I'm wondering if there is something I can do? I know that with horses, when they're sick you can make them a warm mash that will eat if not their grain, but is there something similar for bunnies?

She's eaten all of the straw out of her litter-box, and I think maybe some hay from her hanger, but not any pellets. I gave her more straw just now, so she has something to eat. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

Posting pictures of my sis's buns, and my own. :)

My sisters bunny. He's the oldest out of four. I'm not sure what breed he is... I think he has a bit of flemish in him.

12 pictures below

This is Frado(I'm not sure if this is the correct spelling!XD;), he's name after a guy on from the Godfather movie. Also my sisters bun

I really like this guy. He's huge! You can't really see how big he is in these photos
Frado again. I'm allergic to this guy, so I don't handle him much D: Oh and he's a minilop mix.

This is Dutch, my sisters bun again. She's a rex

She is so soft!Though her fur sticks to clothes badly, she's cuddly. :)

Holding his hand lol
And these are some old pictures of my only bunny. Miyavi.. He's a minirex, or so I was told. I love his colouring. Just like an englishspot! I got him from a back yard breeder. I think this picture is from the day I bought him.. He was filthy, but I cleaned him right up.

I'm wondering if a minirex can have the colouring of an Englishspot?

Okay-so the apartment above me is being renovated during the day when I'm generally not around. Today however, I was here to hear it. And it was LOUD!

The noise seems to have freaked my rabbit out enough that she escaped her cage (the front door was open-how the hell did she do that?) and was cowering in the kitchen which is much further than shes ever gone. The noise is equally bad in all parts of the apartment-and I'm not sure what to do. Is there anyway I can comfort her to help her from getting freaked out?

I just got a bunny last Thursday. The woman we got her from didn't know if she was spayed or not. By the bubby's gentle demeanor it seems like she is. However, she peed on my bf's arm last night and a tiny bit on our couch. Could this be a spray? Or just bad litter box training?

*We are still in the process of litter training her.

Help!

So I am still in the process of finding Bella the greatest vet ever. My search is leading me, so far, to the state of Colorado. Which isn't very far, but taking time off from work is a little tricky for me as I run three movie theatres. Things tend to catch on fire when I'm not around. So, in the mean time, I need you all for a bit of advice. Bella obviously has issues chewing with her teeth and jaw so messed up. I was hoping you guys would have some recommendations as to a nice mushy diet I could try her on. So far she's only been interested in gumming on bananas and yogurt treats, but I can't really feed her just those or bad things will happen.

My foster bunny is doing amazing. Some of you might remember me mentioning her? She's supposed to be "wild" but I don't know... she's come around pretty fast. She's still shy, but she's friendlier than the wild bunny I have Syd, who I've had since he was 5 weeks old and he's now 2 years... here's some photos. :-D

Photobucket
Whoa... she's letting me run around outside my pen! o_O

Photobucket
What's that thing that keeps blinding me? A flash? Hmm..

Photobucket
Don't I have the cutest little foot ever??

Photobucket
Stop shoving that thing in my face foster-mom!

Photobucket
Ooh.. if I climb on her knee I can see heaps more!

Photobucket
Foster-mom's jeans smell like another bunny. I think it's that big evil brown one from downstairs... there's a nice brown one downstairs though too. He's my friend, I'm even braver than him!!

My bestfriend has the rabbit that we got about 5 years ago. I've moved multiple times and the rabbit ended up bonding with her more, so she kept him. He lives on carefresh, eats a good pellet & hay diet with lots of fresh stuff, and was neutered at about 2.5 years of age.

The other day she called me, saying that she had found lumps under his arms that felt tumorous.

Today she took him to the vet to have them checked out. They're located directly on his ribs, on both sides, and upon aspiration, discovered that they're tumorous and could be cancerous.

Thursday he's set to have surgery to remove them.

I can't find much info online about rabbits and tumors. Is it common? Why on earth would there be tumors on his chest and on both sides? Has anyone else delt with this?

PhotoShoot

So, Ms Hadley and I had our photoshoot for the magazine today, and I thought I'd post some pictures. I don't have the ones that the photographer took, but I had my camera and my friends and I took some photos. :D

So I played Alice In Woderland and Hadley was the White Rabbit

She had fun playing Bush Bunny before our photos

Alice and her Bunny.

She had fun chillin' on the stairs with Alice's dykish-type girlfriend >>>

More chillin'

Some people came through, and commented on how cute Hadley and I looked. :D

She is going for her spay tomorrow morning :( So with her luck.

Подскажите кто знает, сколько дней ходят беременными карликовые кролики и как понять беременная крольчиха или нет?

I saw this on Cuteoverload and I had to share:

I think my Bun would hate me if I put this on him (he hates his harness that I got to take him on walks), but OMG CUTE!

02:29

is it wrong that i want a new bunny already? i really feel that link needs a friend, but i'm not sure how much time he needs to adjust to zelda being gone. he seems to be doing okay, but i don't know what goes on in his head.
also, thank you everyone for your kind comments and wishes the other day. it helped a lot. i went to check on her body yesterday, and contrary to everyone's expectations, it actually helped me feel a lot better to see that nature was already reclaiming her.

one more thing:
where does everyone get the wire squares for nic condos? i've tried checking target and home depot and kind find them anywhere!
